An example would be you have just decided to take better care of your health and to eat better. You are excited and motivated! Then you enter your work place and someone offers you a donut or Susie has a Birthday and shares some cake. If you are unarmed with a response you eat the donut and then later you have some cake. Before long you decide I’ll start tomorrow. Resistance comes in many forms. Last week I decided that I would walk everyday outdoors and just enjoy what God gives us naturally, Mother Nature. Then it rained all week! But I had a contingency plan. I would do a home video or go to the gym if the weather was not on my side.
Resistance can be someone or something that is opposing what you know that you need for yourself right now. I encourage you to embrace resistance because the more we push past the opposition the stronger we become. Resistance is a tool that allows us to know we are on the right track.

What resistance have you met recently? What action will you take when others or things stand in your way? Do you have a contingency plan for lives distractions?

MK

Gratitude

We all have days that look impossible. Everything seems to be going wrong. We think to ourselves that we will never accomplish our goals and receives the desires of our heart. We wonder what have we done to deserve this lot. Maybe we are cursed or an old hex is on our head. We complain to who ever will listen. We go through our day grumbling about what should and could have been.
These are the moments when we must dig deep in our soul and become thankful for all that is around us. If you have no home, than be thankful for your apartment. If you are living with someone else than be thankful for the space they have loaned you. Be thankful for a Bed. Be thankful for the grass and the flowers. Be thankful for your body and being in motion. Be thankful that you can speak. Be thankful for a new day. Be thankful for your parents. Be thankful for your children. Be thankful to be married. Be thankful to be single. Be thankful if you are Fat and be thankful if you are skinny.
Just be Thankful for what ever you have right now because in the quiet moments of pure gratitude Blessing abound. Oprah has often said that “Being a Parent is the Hardest Job in the world” and this is coming from a woman without children. From the day your child is conceived you begin to pray over their lives. As parents we agonize about what they should eat, when they should go to sleep, whom they play with, what schools they attend, what sports and activities they should be in, what grades they get, what values we instill in them and on and on.
The number one job of being Mom or Dad is to make sure your child has what it takes to be successful in this life. As the mom of a 14 year old and 8 year old I know for sure that their needs are different. I have made every effort to help them identify their strengths and work on their weaknesses. I support them in victory and discipline them when they need it.
I’m the Cook, Coach, Educator, Accountant, Seamstress, Taxi, Banker, Adviser, Therapist, Friend, Spiritual leader, and Mom. God has given me charge over two wonderful young ladies and I take my job as Commander and Chief seriously. I will and have gone to battle for my girls. After all if I don’t who will?
Some days the job is easy and everything goes as planned. And some days the job keeps you on your knees praying for assistance from above. But one thing is for sure, God provides the strength, courage and patience to get the job done.
So to every Mom and Dad who has grown weary please know that yes the Job is Hard but one day you will hear “JOB well done”.

Keep fighting and victory will reign supreme.

MK

International Sisters

To my Beautiful, loving and talented African-American Sisters lets move forward to create the love we want and deserve. In order to do this we first need to get beyond the raging emotions of intermingling amongst white and blacks who choose to date each other. Oh I’m aware of the hurt and the pain that comes with the small dating pool of available African-American men that educated and talented African-American sisters have to choose from. I understand the cringe and wince that a single beautiful, talent sister may have when she see an equally matched brother with a White sister on his arm. Jill Scott recently spoke about this controversy topic in an interview in Essence magazine. Jill beckoned the men to remember our history and come to their senses. I on the other hand want to say my lovely smart beautiful sisters “Get over it”! There are plenty of available, deserving men of various races and ethnicity that would love to embrace you!
Our world has changed and it’s not coming back. We are now in a Global world and that also means Global interracial relationships. Yes. White men are mail ordering brides from Russian and China. Nigeria, Ghanaian and other African men are marrying African-American , German, Swedish women. Latinos are mixing it up as well. And guess what they are happy! Have you seen Seal and Heidi? Michelle and BaracK? Kamori Lee and Jean?
So open your minds and your hearts to what really matters, finding a connection. Being with someone who embraces and loves you for who you are. And the next time you see a mix race couple instead of wincing, smile, because your love is on the way.
Take a page from the notebook of men everywhere. Go where you are celebrated and not merely tolerated.
MK

Some connections are made in Heaven

I’ll never forget the day I met him. We were at mother’s birthday celebration. He had gotten lost and had arrived late. So I witnessed him make apologies and greet other guest. He was dressed in traditional African attire. He began to engage into politics with a group of women. They all listened as he stated the facts with wit and superior intellect. Then we spoke. I left that night thinking he was a sharp thinker but not really my type. I had just gotten out of a horrific relationship and was in no mood to entertain the thoughts of dating. But this man was different he pursued me with the mastery of a chest player. By the end of our first date I was hooked. A few months later we would be married.
When reporters asked Hillary why she stayed with Bill she replied “ His smile, his ability to make me laugh and he gets me. I love him.” It is with that same energy in which I express my love and gratitude for my husband, lover and friend. He challenges me to be better yet allows me to be me. He is the one who got me. He understood and embraced my passion to learn. For ever move I make he is always thinking of the next. He is a King adjacent to this Queen.
A visitor would think wow these people can argue but family and friends would understand that debate and politics are just as much a part of our relationship as our unconditional love for one another.
Eleven years and I’m still growing and laughing.
Thanks honey. Until we meet again. Go where you are celebrated not merely tolerated.

In the Mean Time defined

Most of our life is spent in the mean time. What exactly is that? Waiting, waiting for something to happen. It the time between the idea and it’s conception. Iyanla Vanzant author of “ In the meantime” coined the phrase. So whether you are looking for a job, working to switch careers, coordinating that big event, losing weight, go to school, or just living life, it’s all the things that happen before you get there.
I recently decided to go to law school. Why?? It has been one exam, paper, application, questionnaire, paper, interview after another and I’m still a waiting to see if I got accepted. I know why. But some days I wonder what are you thinking? You have a career and you are good at it. Save this journey for the next generation. Then reality hits and I remember who I was called to be . I must do for me what I would advise my children, family and my clients to do , “Live your Best life” everyday.
So in the mean time , I have been consulting businesses, coordinating events with my daughters PTO and MoveOn. Org, Scrapbooking ,planning trips, connecting with friends on FaceBook and baking in the kitchen.
All to keep myself from going nuts checking my in box and waiting for a call that says “ Hey your life can now start.” You have been accepted to Law School.

Until then live everyday and enjoy the moment. Never stop dreaming and believing.

MK
